Legacy in the Making
/Welcome to 2021! The year where we use what we learned in 2020 and make better decisions about our fitness, discipline, and health, and set new habits that will empower us to lead lives worthy of legacies for generations to come. There are many ways to create living legacies, but this should get you started.
1. Learn from the past. 2020 was full of lessons you probably didn’t want to learn. We learned a few too. Whatever those were, make sure to acknowledge your feelings and truly meditate on what you learned so you can move into 2021.
One of the lessons we learned was to be flexible. We stretch before every class so we can be limber, and our bodies can do what we need it to do during class. Consider 2020 as a long stretch and be flexible to do what 2021 asks of you. That may mean switching to digital learning camp because school districts made that decision. It may mean adjusting your workout schedule because of demands at work.
We also learned to listen to our bodies and rest. While the world generally views the hustle as a good thing, there is something to be said about rest. After class, your body needs to rest. It needs water, protein, and rest so you can demand more of it again later. We were forced into that rest in 2020, but now know that we need to be more mindful of rest in 2021. Be intentional with your off days. As for our after school program, we have free days for a reason. Kids need time to be kids and rest their bodies and minds. Trust us, we work both mind and body intensively during class.
2. Focus on creating better habits. We don’t like resolutions. Resolutions are easily broken leaving us feeling like failures. We don’t want you to quit. Shift the way you think. Focus more on creating healthy habits. Since there isn’t a cure for COVID, many of us turned to ensure we stayed healthy the natural way. For some of us, that meant vitamins, working out, and eating to boost our immune system. These are all healthy habits we need to continue and make more of a priority in 2021. We’ve got the working out covered for you and your kiddos with our after school program and adult classes.
3. Be Role Models. If we really want to leave a legacy, we have to start with ourselves. We can’t expect our kids to behave any differently if we don’t model the behaviors we want from them. If we want them to stay active, they need to see you staying active. That could mean weekly kickboxing classes, family hiking adventures, or working out at home. Then you can expect them to actually participate and take after-school karate seriously. If you want your kids to eat healthy, they need to see you eating healthy. If you want them to be more respectful, speak to them and others with respect. If you don’t want them to quit, you don’t quit. You get the idea. Our kids will mimic our behaviors and patterns.
2021 can be whatever you want it to be. For us, it’s continuing our Legacy of making legacies reproduce by investing in our students, both children, and adults. Our legacy is well rounded, productive members of our community who are healthy in mind, body, and spirit. It’s what every one of our programs is designed to produce. For those of you who were part of the 2020 journey with us, an extra thank you. And for those of you who are considering us for the first time, welcome!
