The votes have been counted and the results are in! Legacy MMA is a 2020 Best of Gwinnett® winner in Gwinnett Magazine’s annual readers’ poll.

Gwinnett Magazine readers and editors have weighed in on the best of everything in Gwinnett, honoring thousands of businesses and organizations in more than 25 board business and community sectors. “It’s everything you love about Gwinnett,” says Publisher David Greer.

The process starts with a nomination on the Best of Gwinnett website. Voting remains open throughout the year, with tens of thousands of votes ultimately received. The process culminates with the publishing of the annual Best of Gwinnett issue in March.

Best of Gwinnett winners and nominees are chosen by a combination of readers votes and editors input, and are vetted thru several ranking sites, Better Business Bureau complaint reports, and voting pattern analysis reports.

Winners are named in hundreds of individual categories, providing Gwinnett Magazine readers with a go-to-guide for the best of everything in Gwinnett. Gwinnett Magazine recognizes three levels of winners: The Best, Among the Best and Ones to Watch. Within each category, there are multiple honorees named in each tier, depending on the size of the market sector.

Adult Weight Loss is a Journey

January is Weight Loss Awareness Month. Of course, it is, right? We stuff our faces full of comfort food and holiday favorites and then January rolls around and face the reality that we gained more weight on top the weight we wanted to shed already and we’re feeling more sluggish than we’d like. If you went to the doctor right now, you probably wouldn’t like you’re told because you’re probably not your healthiest either. So here we are. January 2021 and we’re determined to lose weight and keep it off this time…for real.

Now people will have their varying methods of weight loss and they’ll swear it works. We don’t buy into gimmicks and fads. All of our instructors at Legacy MMA have heavy fitness backgrounds as well as karate, MMA, and kickboxing.  What works to shed those pounds and keep them off is hard work, consistency, and dedication.

Exercise works. Adults need a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity a day.  The Mayo Clinic says that if you’re focused on weight loss, you’ll need to do and recommends an hour. It sounds like a lot. Yes, it’s hard work and yes, you’ll have to be dedicated. Here’s where we can help. Our kickboxing and MMA  classes are a minimum of 45 minutes classes daily. With us alone, we’ve got you covered.

The type of exercise matters. You want to do a combination of strength and cardio. Kickboxing provides you with both. But let’s say you miss one of our classes. Get 30 minutes of cardio in the morning with a job, run, or brisk walk. When you get home from work, hit the weights or get some free weights or kettlebells at home. We’re happy to give you some tips when you’re in class next. Just ask.

What you eat matters. We’re not going to advocate for any fad diet. You know your health restrictions and we’re not doctors. But we do know that everyone needs protein (in whatever form you prefer), plenty of water, and you need your recommended nutrients. The best way is to get nutrients from foods, but supplements help too. Jason from our Buford location will advise that you eat on a schedule. That helps. And just because you worked out doesn’t mean you can cheat and have whatever you want.

Weight loss is continual. Meaning what you do builds, and you’ll start to see results over time. Don’t expect to see it in a day, week, or even a few weeks. Your body, just like everyone else’s, is different. Your metabolism is different. And you can’t quit when you don’t see results right away. Healthy weight loss takes time. Use this month to get started and stay with us all year for more help on your journey.

Parent-Teacher Conferences and After School Karate

Parent-Teacher Conferences and After School Karate

We want to caution you if your parent-teacher conference doesn’t reveal what you thought. It’s no surprise that this year is traumatic for everyone, but especially our children. Our kids probably have developed anxiety if they didn’t have it already. It’s expected that students may not perform in school to the best of their ability. We have to allow for grace for all involved (students, teachers, and parents).
